35th Ambiorix Award
The Ambiorix Award is the most prestigious business award presented annually by the employers’ organization VKW Limburg to a Limburg-based company that excels in both quantitative and qualitative entrepreneurship, with great attention to employees and the environment. The 35th Ambiorix Award goes to Veldeman Group.
Andy Moors, CEO of Veldeman Group, proudly responds: “We are incredibly proud to have won the prestigious Ambiorix Award, which is a wonderful recognition for our entire company. We owe this award to the dedication of our entire team, who contribute every day with passion and commitment to achieving our ambitions. We are proud of the growth we have accomplished and dedicate this award to all our employees, partners, and customers who have contributed to our success.”
Strategic choices and international growth
Veldeman Group, headquartered in Bree, was founded in 1950 and has grown from a traditional tent building company into a specialist in modular, demountable infrastructure and related customer services. In 2017, the management team took over the company, sharpening its strategic focus. Although the COVID year resulted in a significant drop in revenue and profitability, recent years’ figures highlight both the relevance of the strategic choices and the resilience of the organization.
President of the jury, Professor Bart Van Looy (KU Leuven – Flanders Business School) comments: “In recent years, Veldeman has managed to double its revenue without sacrificing its margin (EBITDA). This growth has also led to a balanced spread of its portfolio, both in terms of customer segments and regions (Benelux, Europe, North/South America).”
Further international growth ambitions have been supported by the entry of IK Partners (in 2023), while recent acquisitions in Belgium and the Netherlands contribute to building an international market leadership position in selected segments.
Focus on customers, employees and the environment
“A well-balanced management team, led by CEO Andy Moors, ensures that the company charter, which connects customer focus, collaboration, respect, and engagement with results, is upheld. Employee engagement and well-being are on an equal footing with the focus on customer satisfaction,” adds the president of the jury.
Veldeman is committed to sustainable entrepreneurship, with the ambition of becoming a reference company in the sector, particularly in terms of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) standards.
“In terms of strategic choices, organisation and business operations, Veldeman has convinced the jury that value is being created on both a European and transatlantic scale, truly worthy of an Ambiorix laureate,” concludes Professor Bart Van Looy.
About the Ambiorix Award
The employers’ organization VKW Limburg has been awarding the Ambiorix Award for 35 years to a Limburg-based company from the TOP500 that excels in both quantitative and qualitative entrepreneurship, with great attention to employees and the environment. The selection process begins with a quantitative assessment based on financial performance and growth over the past five years. The best-performing companies then undergo a rigorous qualitative evaluation, including a visit by an independent expert jury, which focuses on strategy, organization, and societal impact. The effectiveness of the stringent selection process is evident from the fact that the 34 previous laureates continue to thrive today.
