Temporary store with mezzanine Delhaize Mechelen

Challenge

Delhaize in Mechelen-Noord was completely demolished to enable a larger supermarket to be constructed on the same site, along with a larger car park. Pending the new building, Delhaize asked Veldeman to build a temporary store on the car park where customers could continue to do their grocery shopping. The limited surface area that was available had to be fully utilised.

Solution

Veldeman built a temporary store measuring 1,350 square metres that would remain open for one year. The store was compartmentalised into retail space and a warehouse. To gain more space, a mezzanine was constructed. This upper floor was furnished with changing rooms, offices, toilet facilities, a dining area and other areas for staff. Veldeman’s total solution included lighting, air-conditioning, a covered loading and unloading dock, an anti-slip entrance with a pedestrian ramp and handrails, an entrance portal with automated sliding doors, refrigeration and freezing installations, etc.
