Pop-up arena Middelkerke

Challenge

Sportpaleis Group, the municipality of Middelkerke and Proximus had given the green light for a lively concert summer in Middelkerke. The concerts would take place in the first pop-up arena on the Belgian coast. At the arena, events and concerts were planned throughout the summer, in accordance with the rules laid down for corona-safe gatherings. The organisation called on Veldeman to create this pop-up arena.

Solution

Veldeman built a TFS tent structure measuring 60 metres x 60 metres, with a ridge height of an impressive 19 metres. This was fitted out with stands, which under normal circumstances could offer seating to around 5,500 audience members. However, because of the corona measures in force, the tent could hold a reduced number of people. The open side walls in the length of the structure and fresh air vents in the gables guaranteed good ventilation. In addition to the Proximus pop-up arena, the Ipanema Beach Club was constructed, a successful combination.

The organisation, general public and the performers were full of praise about the initiative. Almost 35,000 visitors could enjoy 15 concerts. Enthusiastic preparations are therefore already taking place for edition 2022.
