How did we do it?
TC Aquila searched for a solution which would meet the high demand from its members to continue playing tennis during the winter months. A comparison was made between different alternatives. A permanent building was not an option, as the cost of investment was too high. An air dome was ruled out, as the operating costs would be too high. A Veldeman tennis hall, which can be used both during the summer and winter, turned out to be the most cost-effective investment for the club.
Veldeman installed a Trium tennis hall to cover 4 existing gravel tennis courts. During the winter, the hall is closed off whilst, during the summer, the side walls can be opened for an outdoor sports experience and play can still continue even when it rains. The opening side walls have also turned out to be a huge advantage of the hall during the current corona crisis. “Back in February, we received permission from Sport Vlaanderen to use the hall. When all side walls are opened, there is sufficient ventilation inside the hall, enabling our members to take part in the sporting activities in a COVID secure manner,” says Chairperson Tom Deprez. The hall was fitted with a sliding window in between the hall and canteen, which means there is always a view into the hall from the canteen. “This is definitely also of added value,” the Chairperson said.
