How did we do it?
Comfortable training in all weather conditions and this throughout the year that was the intent of Lokomotiv Moscow. For this reason the Russian First Division club was looking to cover a football field. The football facility had to have a clear span of 60 m and had to be able to withstand the extreme local weather conditions. Furthermore, it had to be possible to build the training facility in a short period of time.
Lokomotiv Moscow opted for a steel framed fabric structure of Veldeman of 60 m x 100 m. Because of the lightweight design, the weight of the roof was limited and this allowed the creation of the large free span. The structure was prefabricated, which meant that the assembly time on site could be limited. The materials, namely, steel and PVC fabric, could also be handled in the extreme cold temperatures (as low as -20 ° C), so the building of the structure suffered no delay. The result of this collaboration is a unique football training facility.
Olga Smorodskaya, FC Lokomotiv president: “The very name ‘Lokomotiv’ implies the will to lead, to be the first. We’ve been the champions of Russia several times, and won several Russian Cups. Now we’re pioneering again: this structure is the first of its kind in Russia.”
