Temporary storage of waste for long-term use IOK

Challenge

IOK Waste Management in Geel needed a quick and efficient solution for the temporary storage of household waste. The storage space had to be easily expandable in the future.

Solution

Veldeman built a steel structure measuring 27m by 70m with a side height of 7.5m. Thanks to the modular system, the structure can be easily expanded. The translucent roof membrane not only provides natural daylight but also contributes to lower energy costs and a comfortable working environment. The structure offers IOK a flexible and sustainable solution for long-term use.

Thirteen years after its construction, the hall still proves its robust and functional character. “At the time, we consciously chose this solution because we wanted to obtain a permit quickly and be operational in a short time,” says Benny Eyckmans, site manager at IOK Waste Management in Geel. “The multipurpose hall is used intensively every day, both for the storage of processed household waste and for work involving shredders, among other tasks. Over the years, it has withstood many storms without any damage. Furthermore, no maintenance has been required, and after all these years, the structure still shows no signs of wear. It has been an excellent investment that continues to prove its value.”
