How did we do it?
In winter, skating fans can have a great time at the “Schaatsboot” in Mechelen. This open-air ice rink is built on a pontoon above the Inner Dyle. Skate rental is located on a second pontoon. Both pontoons are hardly larger than the required surface area and are surrounded by water and docks. In addition, the construction and dismantling time is highly limited. Sounds like a challenge for the Veldeman team!
The material for this structure is placed on the pontoons from the dock using a crane. This means that there is even less available room for construction. This project is therefore a unique crowning glory for Veldeman’s assemblers! As well as a tent for the skate rental, they also installed the floor on which the ice rink is built. An aluminium hall with pyramid-shaped roof and covered terrace was converted into a delightful Winter Lounge in which visitors are able to enjoy delicious regional produce and local beers. Themed soirees provide the desired atmosphere for a whole month.
