How did we do it?
Mantos Blancos is a large copper mine located in the north of Chile. The mine has one of the largest reserves of copper in Chile and in the world. For the maintenance of the huge Komatsu trucks Mantos Blancos went to look for what are called truck shops. These structures have to protect the miners against the sun during the maintenance at the mine site.
Veldeman delivered two structures of 10 metres wide and 20 metres long, with a side height of no less than 10 metres. The structures only have roof fabrics fitted to protect people against the sun. The fabric structures are ideally suited to the mining sector because the mines are often at remote locations. Traditional construction is difficult there. The fact that the fabric structures can be easily moved is also a great advantage. When the mining activities shift to another part of the site, the infrastructure can simply be moved along as work progresses.
